Maroantsetra lies at the northern end of Antongil Bay, the largest bay in Madagascar, on the island's northeastern coast. From above, the town sits on the low, flat delta of the Antainambalana River, with river channels, swamps and rice fields around it. Its streets form a small, loose grid close to the water, and the coast curves away to the south on both sides of the bay.
The area is one of the wettest in Madagascar and is surrounded by rainforest. Maroantsetra is the main starting point for trips to Masoala National Park, on the peninsula across the bay, and to the island reserve of Nosy Mangabe, known for its lemurs, including the aye-aye. Much of the town's contact with the outside world is still by boat or small plane.
A Maroantsetra map poster is shaped by water. The bay fills a large part of the frame, river branches wind through the land around the town, and the small cluster of streets sits between them. The result is a soft, organic image in which the edges of land and water seem to shift, much like the delta itself.
The broad bay opens to the south of town, its shoreline forming the main outline of the map and the route to Masoala and Nosy Mangabe.
The Antainambalana River splits into channels near the coast, surrounding the town with water, wetlands and rice fields.
A small, loosely organised network of streets near the waterfront forms the only dense area in an otherwise open landscape.

For travellers who made the journey to Masoala, and for people from the northeast of Madagascar, this map holds a remote and memorable place. The mix of bay, river and small town gives it a quiet, natural beauty on the wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be personalised, and the poster comes in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9 in six sizes, or order a matte printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
