Mazabuka lies in Zambia's Southern Province, on the main road that links Lusaka with Livingstone. From above, the town's streets gather around that route, and the land beyond is dominated by large irrigated farmland. Rectangular fields and straight access tracks make a regular pattern around the more organic layout of the town.
The town is best known as the centre of Zambia's sugar industry. The large Nakambala sugar estate lies nearby and draws water from the Kafue River system to the north. Agriculture shapes both the local economy and the landscape.
A Mazabuka map poster reflects this relationship between a town and its farmland. The built-up area is compact, the main road passes through as a clear line, and the geometric field boundaries give the outer parts of the map an unusual texture.
The highway between Lusaka and Livingstone runs through town and forms the main axis for streets on both sides.
Large irrigated plots lie beyond the town, forming a regular pattern of rectangles and straight tracks.
The town's streets form a small, close network around the main road before opening into farmland.
