Montemorelos lies southeast of Monterrey in Nuevo León, on the Pilón River as it flows out of the Sierra Madre Oriental. From above, the town is a compact grid on the river's bank, and beyond it the land is divided into orange groves, which on the map show up as regular field boundaries and rural roads.
