Montrose sits in the Uncompahgre Valley on Colorado's Western Slope, where the valley floor widens between the Uncompahgre Plateau to the west and higher country to the east. The town was laid out on a simple grid. From above its blocks form an orderly rectangle, crossed by highways heading toward Grand Junction, Gunnison and the San Juan Mountains to the south.
The Uncompahgre River runs along the western side of town, followed by a green band of parkland and trails. Irrigation ditches branch across the surrounding farmland, fed in part by the Gunnison Tunnel, which opened in 1909 to carry water from the Gunnison River into the valley. On a print they appear as thin lines through the fields.
Montrose is the closest town to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, whose deep gorge lies a short drive to the east. A Montrose map poster leaves that wild country aside and focuses on the town itself: a practical grid on an open valley floor, drawn with the clarity the landscape suggests.

The river follows the western edge of town in a gently winding line, lined by parks and trails that show as a continuous pale strip on the map.
Canals and ditches spread across the valley farmland, some fed by the historic Gunnison Tunnel, and form a network of fine lines beyond the town grid.

People hang Montrose on the wall to remember trips to the Black Canyon and the San Juans, or simply because it is home. You can personalise the title with the town's name or a family name, and add a date and your own coordinates.
Sand suits the high-desert light, and Blueprint brings out the grid. Classic black & white, Noir and Paper are also available. The $9 download includes six sizes up to 24×36″ as 300 DPI PNGs and PDFs, or a printed poster can be shipped to you.
