Muvattupuzha lies in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, and its name describes its map. It means three rivers, and the town grew at the point where three streams meet to form the Muvattupuzha River. From above, the water dominates: river channels curve through the town, and roads and bridges cross them to connect the neighbourhoods on each bank.
The surrounding landscape is typical of central Kerala, with low hills, dense green cover and scattered houses among plantations.
