Nanminda lies in Kozhikode district in northern Kerala, a short way inland from the Malabar coast. Like much of the region, it has no single compact centre. Houses, shops and institutions are strung along roads that wind across low hills, and on the map the result is a loose, organic network rather than a planned grid.
The landscape alternates between gently rounded laterite uplands and narrow valleys, where paddy fields and streams run along the lower ground. Coconut palms and home gardens surround most houses, so settlement and greenery are thoroughly mixed.
