North Charleston occupies the neck of land north of historic Charleston, between the Ashley River to the west and the Cooper River to the east. From above, it is a city of long corridors. The interstate, rail yards and main roads run roughly north to south, and residential streets cross them before ending abruptly at tidal marsh. The waterfront is ragged, broken into creeks and inlets rather than a smooth shore.
The Cooper River side still carries the footprint of the former Charleston Naval Base, whose piers and dry docks read clearly as rectangles jutting into the water. Inland, the airport runways and the large aerospace campus beside them, where Boeing assembles 787 Dreamliners, form broad blank shapes. A North Charleston map poster shows how much of the city was shaped by industry and transport.
Among all this infrastructure sits Park Circle, an early twentieth-century neighbourhood laid out on garden-city principles, with streets radiating from a round central park. It is one of the most recognisable figures on any map of the Lowcountry. The city itself was only incorporated in 1972, so it is young as a municipality despite the older settlement patterns beneath it.

The Ashley and Cooper rivers flank the city, and their marshy margins break the street grid into irregular fingers of land along both edges.
Along the Cooper River, long piers and dry docks from the old Charleston Naval Base remain as crisp, angular forms against the curving water.

Ko e hā ʻa North Charleston
Many people come to North Charleston for work, whether at the port, the old base or the aerospace plant. A map of the city can mark a job, a posting or the neighbourhood where a family chose to settle.
Personalise the title and subtitle, keep or edit the coordinates line, and pick one of five styles. Blueprint suits the industrial waterfront especially well, while Paper and Sand soften the marsh edges. Printed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
