Nushki is the main town of Nushki District in Balochistan, in western Pakistan, not far from the border with Afghanistan. The surrounding country is arid: wide gravel plains and sandy stretches, with bare ranges on the horizon. The town serves as a market and administrative centre for a large, thinly populated area.
From above, Nushki is compact and clearly bounded. A core of streets and walled compounds gathers around the main roads, and the land beyond turns abruptly to open desert and scattered cultivated plots.
