Oegstgeest sits immediately north of Leiden in South Holland, so close that the two share a continuous street network along much of their border. The map captures that position: dense urban blocks to the south, looser residential neighbourhoods in the middle, and open polder land cut by ditches further out, toward the bulb fields and the coast.
Much of the older housing lines leafy streets of villas and terraces built for families who worked in Leiden, including academics from the university. The small Groene Kerkje, one of the oldest churches in the area, stands at the edge of the village, and historic estates such as Endegeest add parkland to the map.
