Ko e mape
Poá is one of the smallest municipalities by area in São Paulo state, in the Alto Tietê area east of the state capital. Almost all of its territory is urbanised. The map is a dense patchwork of residential streets that runs into neighbouring Suzano, Ferraz de Vasconcelos and Itaquaquecetuba with no obvious break. Blocks vary in orientation, reflecting separate subdivisions stitched together over time.
A suburban railway line crosses the town and links it to central São Paulo, and the station area is still the focus of the centre. Poá was historically known for its mineral water springs, which once drew visitors for the water's reputed benefits. Today it is mainly a commuter town within the wider metropolitan region.
A Poá map poster shows what a metropolitan edge looks like at street level: small blocks set at shifting angles, the railway cutting through, and town boundaries visible only in the poster's title. The density of lines gives the print a rich, almost woven texture, especially in the darker styles.
The commuter railway runs through Poá toward central São Paulo. It is a continuous line that divides the town and anchors its centre around the station.
Neighbourhood grids meet at different angles, a sign of how separate subdivisions grew side by side, producing a varied pattern across the map.
Poá merges into the surrounding municipalities with no open space between them, so the streets fill the frame right up to the edges.
