Ko e mape
Prokhladnyy is a town in the north of Kabardino-Balkaria in southern Russia, on the flat plain north of the Caucasus Mountains. It lies on the Malka River, and from above the town appears as a regular pattern of streets, with the river winding along its side and railway lines converging from several directions.
The town grew from a Cossack stanitsa and later developed into an important railway junction on the line through the North Caucasus. That role is still visible on the map, where tracks and sidings form long, gently curving lines through the urban area. Around the town, open farmland extends in wide fields toward the foothills to the south.
A Prokhladnyy map poster captures a clear composition: the orderly street grid, the curve of the Malka and the strong lines of the railway. The surrounding plain leaves generous space around the town. It is a quiet, graphic image with personal significance for those from this part of the North Caucasus.
Several rail lines meet at Prokhladnyy, and the map shows tracks and yards cutting through the town in long, smooth lines that define its structure.
The river runs past the town, its winding channel and floodplain forming a natural boundary against the more regular pattern of streets.
Straight streets laid out across the plain reflect the town's origins as a Cossack settlement, forming an orderly block pattern around the centre.
