Qibao sits in Minhang District on the western side of Shanghai, and its map is a study in scale. At the centre is a compact old town laid out along narrow canals, with lanes barely wider than a footpath running parallel to the water. Around it, the city has grown in large rectangular superblocks, residential compounds and broad arterial roads that make the historic core look tiny.
The old town traces its origins back roughly a thousand years, and its name, meaning seven treasures, comes from a local legend about precious objects once kept here. Stone bridges cross the main canal at the heart of the quarter, and the pattern of water, bridge and lane is the same one that defined dozens of market towns across the Yangtze delta before the rail era.
A Qibao map poster works best when framed tightly enough to show that contrast. The canals appear as fine, slightly irregular lines, while the Line 9 metro corridor and the wide roads around them are drawn with the confidence of modern planning. It is a picture of how Shanghai absorbed its older market towns without erasing their outlines.
The historic core follows a short stretch of canal, with shops and houses lining both banks. On the map it appears as a dense, fine-grained cluster that contrasts with everything around it.
Arched bridges connect the two sides of the old town at close intervals. At poster scale they register as small crossings along the water, the pivot points of the whole quarter.
Beyond the old town, Minhang's residential compounds form large, evenly spaced rectangles bounded by wide roads. Their regularity frames the historic centre like a border around an inset map.

Ko e hā ʻa Qibao
People who lived in Minhang, studied nearby or spent weekends walking Qibao's canal lanes often want something more personal than a skyline print. This map shows the water town as a real place inside a working city, which makes it a thoughtful gift for anyone who has moved away from Shanghai.
