Rāmtek lies northeast of Nagpur in Maharashtra, at the foot of a hill crowned by a fortified temple complex dedicated to Rama. The hill, known as Ramgiri, is the focal point of the town. On a map, streets gather around its base, while paths and steps climb its slopes toward the temples enclosed by walls at the top.
Water is a strong presence in the surrounding landscape. Several lakes and reservoirs lie close by, including Khindsi Lake, a popular place for boating, and the Ambala tank near the hill, which pilgrims visit.
