San Luis is the capital of the province of the same name, in the centre-west of Argentina, where the plains begin to rise toward the Sierras de San Luis. The city was founded in the late sixteenth century. Its centre still follows the Spanish colonial pattern of square blocks around a main plaza, and the grid extends in every direction until it meets hills, open land and the roads out of town.
On a map, the grid is the main feature. Avenues run through it at regular intervals, and a few diagonal roads cut across the pattern. To the east the land becomes more uneven and the grid gives way to the valleys that lead into the sierras, where small reservoirs and hill settlements provide weekend escapes for people from the city.
A San Luis map poster shows a clear, orderly plan: blocks of equal size, a central plaza, and major routes leaving toward Mendoza, Córdoba and the mountains. Few city plans in the Argentine interior look as regular. Printed in simple lines, it gives a sense of how a colonial layout grew into a modern provincial capital.
The square blocks around the main plaza follow the original Spanish plan. The pattern continues evenly for kilometres in every direction.
Roads to the east leave the grid and climb into the hills. On the map, straight lines give way to curves that follow the valleys.
Wide avenues divide the grid into large sections. On the poster they form a bold frame around the finer network of streets.

Ko e hā ʻa San Luis
People from San Luis often explain their city by its grid and the hills beside it. A map poster captures both: the plaza where the city began and the roads heading toward the sierras.
You can add a title, a subtitle such as a year or a street name, and the coordinates line. You can also choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint makes the regular grid look almost like a technical drawing.
