São Domingos do Prata is a municipality in eastern Minas Gerais, in the hilly country that characterises much of the state. From above, the town does not spread out on a flat grid. Instead, its streets follow the contours of the land, climbing ridges and running along the valley floors where building is easiest.
The centre forms a compact cluster, with the main church and square typical of towns in Minas at its heart.
