Tamale is the capital of Ghana's Northern Region and one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. It lies on the flat savanna, so there are no hills or major rivers to limit its growth. From above, the main roads radiate from the city centre toward other northern towns, and neighbourhoods spread out between them.
The centre is compact, with the market, government buildings and the central mosque close together. Further out, the streets become more open, with larger plots and more space between buildings. The pattern changes gradually toward the edges, where the city meets the surrounding farmland.
A Tamale map poster captures the city's radial structure. The roads fanning out from the centre give the design a sense of direction and movement, and the level terrain keeps the whole composition even and clear. It is a meaningful print for people who call the north home.
Main roads lead out from the centre toward other towns in the region. On the map, they form a clear star pattern around the core.
The market and main public buildings sit close together in the middle. This dense area gives the map a clear focal point.
Toward the edges, plots are larger and streets more spread out. The pattern thins gradually into open savanna.
