Tampico is shaped by water on almost every side. The Pánuco River runs along its southern edge toward the Gulf of Mexico, and lagoons press into the city from the north and west, including the Laguna del Carpintero close to the centre. The streets fill whatever solid ground is left, so the urban area has an irregular outline with shorelines cutting into it.
In the early twentieth century, oil discoveries in the region made Tampico one of the busiest ports in Mexico, and much of the historic centre dates from that era. Two plazas sit at its heart, surrounded by arcaded buildings that reflect the port's prosperity. The docks along the river still anchor the city's southern edge on the map.
A Tampico map poster is mostly a study of land meeting water. The lagoons make large, calm shapes, the river gives a firm curve, and the older grid of the centre sits between them. The neighbouring municipalities of Madero and Altamira extend the street pattern toward the coast, making for a wide composition with plenty of contrast.
This lagoon lies right next to the city centre, forming a large open shape with streets wrapped around its shores.
The river marks the southern boundary on its way to the Gulf, with port facilities and wharves lining the bank.
The two main squares of the old centre sit within a compact grid of streets, which shows up as a regular pattern among the waterways.

Ko e hā ʻa Tampico
Tampico has a strong identity among the people who come from it, tied to the port, the river and the lagoons. A map of those waters makes a natural gift for anyone who has moved away, and the title and date can mark a wedding, a move or a family story.
Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint goes well with a harbour city. Buy HD files for $9 and print locally, or order a matte poster shipped by print partners in more than 30 countries.
