Tarbes is the capital of the Hautes-Pyrénées department, in the southwest of France. It sits on a wide, flat plain beside the Adour River, with the Pyrenees rising clearly to the south. From above, the city centre is a compact web of streets and boulevards. The Adour and several smaller channels run north–south along its eastern side.
Two large green areas stand out on the map. One is the Haras national, the historic stud farm known for breeding horses. The other is the Jardin Massey, a landscaped park in the centre. Both appear as broad open shapes within the denser streets around them.
Tarbes is the birthplace of Marshal Ferdinand Foch and of the poet Théophile Gautier. Lourdes lies a short distance to the south. A Tarbes map poster combines the river, the boulevards and the green spaces into a balanced, readable composition.
The river and its side channels run along the city from north to south. They give the map a strong vertical line and a natural edge.
The historic stud farm occupies a large, walled green space close to the centre. It is one of the most distinctive shapes on the page.
This landscaped park forms a soft, open area among the central streets. Its winding paths contrast with the surrounding urban grid.

Tarbes appeals to anyone who studied, trained or grew up there, or who knows it as the gateway to the Pyrenees. Its river and green spaces give it a calm, well-proportioned look on the wall.
