Teotenango hill
The archaeological site occupies the hilltop above town. On the poster, the roads and paths climbing it give the map a distinctive shape next to the colonial grid.

Tenango de Arista Map Poster & Print
Tenango de Arista is the main town of Tenango del Valle municipality in the State of Mexico, at the southern end of the Toluca Valley. On a map, the town sits at the point where the flat valley floor meets higher ground. The centre has a regular grid of streets and blocks, and the farmland beyond is divided into long, narrow fields.
Directly above the town is Teotenango, a large pre-Hispanic archaeological site on a hilltop, with terraces, platforms and plazas. It is one of the best-known sites in the region. To the west, the land rises toward the Nevado de Toluca volcano, which is visible from much of the valley.
A Tenango de Arista map poster shows the town's position well: a neat urban grid on the plain, with the hill and its winding roads on one side and farmland stretching out on the other. It is a balanced composition, where the regular street plan contrasts with the curving lines of the higher ground.

Central grid
Straight streets cross at right angles around the town centre and its main square. The pattern stays orderly until it reaches the slopes or the fields.
Valley fields
Farmland around the town is divided into long, thin plots. Their parallel lines give the edges of the map a fine, striped texture.
