Thornton began in 1953 as a planned community on open farmland north of Denver, and its map still shows that plan. Long arterial roads run on a regular grid, and inside each square the residential streets bend into loops, crescents and short cul-de-sacs. Interstate 25 runs straight north through the city and gives the whole composition a clear spine.
Water appears in small, scattered shapes: reservoirs, ponds and lakes set in parks and former gravel pits, with the South Platte River corridor along the eastern side. Newer neighbourhoods reach north toward the E-470 beltway. You can see the difference between the early subdivisions and the later ones in how their streets curve and branch.
The city is named after Dan Thornton, who was governor of Colorado when it was founded. A Thornton map poster reads best at larger sizes. There the fine texture of the residential blocks sits against the heavier lines of the highways and the pale open ground that remains at the edges, where the city meets the plains.
The interstate runs north through the city in a nearly straight line. It is a heavy stroke that anchors the layout and clearly divides the neighbourhoods on either side.
Arterial roads about a mile apart frame each district. Inside them, residential streets curve into crescents and cul-de-sacs, a pattern typical of planned postwar American suburbs.
Small reservoirs and park ponds are scattered across the city. On the east, the South Platte corridor adds a line of water and green along the edge of the map.

For people who grew up here or bought a first home in one of its subdivisions, the map is a personal record: you can find your own street inside the grid. You can add a title, a subtitle such as a move-in date, and the coordinates line.
Classic black & white or Noir give crisp contrast, Paper or Sand give a warmer tone, and Blueprint gives a technical look. The digital files cost $9 and include six print sizes. You can also order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
