Tobelo sits on the northeast coast of Halmahera, the largest island in North Maluku. From above, the town is a strip of streets running along the bay. The sea fills one side of the map and forested hills rise behind the other. Small islands lie just offshore, and their outlines give the water a rhythm that most coastal towns lack.
Tobelo is the administrative seat of North Halmahera Regency, and the port links it to boats that move between the islands. The street pattern is simple. A main road follows the coast, and shorter streets run inland from it toward gardens and higher ground. The piers reach out into the bay as thin lines.
A Tobelo map poster turns that edge between land and water into the main subject. In monochrome, the coastline is a single confident line, the islands are small solid shapes, and the town is a fine grain of streets in between. It is a quiet image of life at the edge of the Pacific side of the Moluccas.
The coast bends gently along the town. On the poster it separates the fine street pattern from the open water.
Several small islands sit just off the coast. Their compact outlines give the empty sea some weight and balance.
A main road runs parallel to the water, with short streets branching inland from it. Together they form a ladder-like pattern typical of island towns.

Ko e hā ʻa Tobelo
For people from North Halmahera, or anyone who has sailed these waters, the shape of Tobelo's bay is instantly familiar. It is a clean, understated way to keep a remote coastline close.
