Villach sits on a wide stretch of the Drau, and on a map the river is the first thing you notice, curving through the middle of the city with bridges stitching the two banks together. The old centre gathers around a long main square close to the water, while railway lines fan out across the flatter ground, a reminder that the city has long been one of the key rail junctions in southern Austria.
It is the second-largest city in Carinthia and lies a short drive from both the Italian and Slovenian borders. To the west rises the Dobratsch massif, and to the southeast the thermal springs of Warmbad have drawn visitors for centuries. Each summer the city hosts the Villacher Kirchtag, one of the largest traditional festivals in Austria, which fills the old town streets for a week.
A Villach map poster captures a city defined by movement: a river flowing east, rail lines converging from several valleys, and roads threading between mountains toward nearby lakes such as the Ossiacher See and the Faaker See. In monochrome, the dense old centre, the open curve of the Drau and the looser suburbs at the foot of the slopes form a clear, readable picture.

The historic centre forms a compact knot of narrow streets around an elongated main square, close to the river and noticeably denser than the surrounding districts.
Tracks arrive from several directions and spread into wide yards, drawing long parallel lines that mark Villach's role as a crossroads between Austria, Italy and Slovenia.

Ko e hā ʻa Villach
Villach tends to mean something to people who pass through often: skiers, lake visitors, travellers crossing the Alps by train, and those who grew up between the river and the mountains. A clean map of the city works as a reminder of that crossroads.
