Voorschoten lies in South Holland between Leiden and The Hague. On a map its main feature is the Vliet, the old canal that links the two cities and runs straight along the eastern side of the village. The historic centre sits near the water. West of it, neighbourhoods give way to woods, meadows and the grounds of old estates toward Wassenaar.
The best known of these estates is Duivenvoorde Castle, a manor with centuries of history, set in a landscaped park that is open to visitors. The long line of estates, avenues and woodland along the edge of the coastal dunes has shaped Voorschoten's character. It is a village that grew between two cities but stayed noticeably green.
A Voorschoten map poster shows this balance well. Regular residential streets, the straight line of the canal, the railway on its embankment and the soft outlines of parks and estate grounds sit side by side. In black and white, the village looks like a careful Dutch drawing: ordered, quiet and full of fine detail.

The castle and its landscaped park sit on the edge of the village. Tree-lined avenues and ponds make an elegant pattern on the map.
Toward Wassenaar, the streets give way to woods, meadows and old estate grounds, creating a large green area at the edge of the poster.
