Vushtrri lies in the north of Kosovo, in the broad valley of the Sitnica River, between Mitrovica and Prishtina. The land here is mostly flat and agricultural, so the town has spread fairly evenly outward. There is a dense older centre and looser residential districts beyond it, which fade into fields and villages along the plain.
At the heart of the town stands the stone tower of the old fortress, one of the best-known historic structures in the region. Nearby, an arched stone bridge from the Ottoman period crosses what was once a river channel. Together they mark the historic core, where streets are more irregular and closely built than in the newer parts of town.

Stone bridge
An arched stone bridge from the Ottoman era sits near the centre. It is one of the town's most recognised landmarks and a reminder of old river crossings.
