Yegyi, also commonly written Yeji, lies in the Bono East region of Ghana on the shore of Volta Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world. On a map water dominates. The town sits on the edge of a broad expanse of lake, and its streets run inland from the shore in a loose, irregular pattern.
The lake shapes the life of the town. Yegyi is an important fishing centre and a crossing point, with ferries linking it to the far shore and to other lake settlements.
