Ko e mape
Yingjiang is a county seat in the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, in the far west of Yunnan near the border with Myanmar. The town sits in a broad basin carved by the Daying River, which gives the county its name. On a map, the valley floor appears as a flat, open plain of rice fields, with mountains rising steeply on either side.
The town's streets form a compact, fairly regular grid on the valley floor, with newer districts expanding across former farmland. The river runs close by in a broad channel, and irrigation canals divide the surrounding fields into narrow strips. Beyond the basin, the Daying continues west across the border, where it becomes the Taping and joins the Irrawaddy.
The region is home to Dai and Jingpo communities, and the valley's landscape of paddies, bamboo and tropical vegetation feels closer to South-east Asia than to much of China.
