The long beach
A broad sandy arc stretches along the town's seafront. On the map it forms a clean, sweeping line between the streets and the open sea.

Zarautz lies on the coast of Gipuzkoa in the Basque Country, between San Sebastián and Getaria. From above, its defining feature is the beach, a long, gentle curve of sand facing the Bay of Biscay. The old town and the seafront promenade sit directly behind it, and steep green hills close in quickly on the landward side.
The beach is among the longest in the Basque Country, and Zarautz is well known for surfing, with regular competitions held there. Part of the shore is protected as a dune and marsh biotope. Vineyards producing txakoli, the local white wine, cover the surrounding slopes.
A Zarautz map poster is defined by the meeting of land and sea. The smooth arc of the beach, the tight streets of the old centre and the contour-hugging roads into the hills all fit in one frame. It is an elegant, balanced composition, and the coastline alone makes it immediately recognisable.
A broad sandy arc stretches along the town's seafront. On the map it forms a clean, sweeping line between the streets and the open sea.
Compact historic streets and the seafront promenade sit just behind the sand. They form the densest cluster of the town plan.
Protected dunes lie at one end of the beach, and steep, vineyard-covered hills rise behind town. Winding roads trace the slopes.

Zarautz appeals to surfers who return every season, families who spend summers on its beach, and anyone who loves the Basque coast. The curve of the shoreline makes a memorable print for a holiday home or city flat.
