Ghent–Bruges canal
The canal cuts a broad, steady line across the municipality. It is a waterway dating back to the seventeenth century and the clearest single feature on the print.

Aalter Map Poster & Print
Aalter lies in East Flanders, roughly halfway between Ghent and Bruges, and its map is shaped by transport lines that all run in the same east–west direction. The canal linking the two cities, the railway between them and the E40 motorway pass through or beside the municipality in near-parallel strokes. The town centre sits close to the station.
Around the centre the pattern loosens into residential streets, farm roads and scattered hamlets across flat, open countryside. In 2019 Aalter merged with neighbouring Knesselare, so the municipality now reaches further north into a landscape of fields, patches of woodland and long straight lanes, typical of the sandy interior of Flanders.
An Aalter map poster works best when it includes the canal, since the water gives the composition a firm horizontal line and a sense of direction. Canal-side industry, the station quarter and the quieter village cores of the surrounding parishes each add a different texture, from dense blocks to widely spaced lines across the plain.

Parallel corridors
The railway and motorway follow the same general course as the canal, so the poster shows three distinct lines of movement stacked across the flat land between Ghent and Bruges.
Merged villages
Since the 2019 merger with Knesselare, several village centres sit within one boundary. Each appears as a small knot of streets, set apart from the others by open farmland.
