Market crossroads
Four historic streets meet at the heart of the town. This crossroads is the clearest feature of the plan, a simple cross that everything else grows out from.

Ampthill Map Poster & Print
Ampthill is a market town in Bedfordshire, set on the sandy high ground of the Greensand Ridge. Its historic core is simple and memorable: four old streets meet at a crossroads by the market place, and many of the buildings along them date from the Georgian period. From above, that cross shape remains the anchor, with later housing spreading outwards in every direction.
North-west of the centre lies Ampthill Park, the former grounds of Ampthill Castle, later landscaped by Capability Brown. It reads on the map as a large open space rising above the town. Katherine's Cross stands in the park and marks the site of the castle where Katherine of Aragon stayed while Henry VIII pursued the annulment of their marriage.
An Ampthill map poster shows how compact the old town is compared with the modern estates around it, and how the park and surrounding countryside press close to the edges. It is a small place with a clear plan, which makes it well suited to a detailed, close-in composition.

Ampthill Park
The former castle grounds form a broad green space on rising ground north-west of the centre. On the poster they give the composition a calm, open counterweight.
Greensand Ridge
The town sits on a ridge of sandy hills crossing Bedfordshire. Its lanes and field boundaries curve with the higher ground rather than running in straight lines.

Neden Ampthill
Anlam taşıyan bir harita
Ampthill is the sort of town people choose deliberately, for its old streets, its park and its easy links to Bedford and London. A map of it suits a new homeowner, a couple who married at a local church, or someone who spent their childhood walking the park.
Personalise the title with a name or the town itself, add a date to the subtitle, and keep the coordinates or rewrite them. Choose from five styles; Paper and Sand suit a Georgian interior particularly well.
