Bad Oldesloe lies in Schleswig-Holstein, roughly between Hamburg and Lübeck, where the River Beste joins the Trave. On a map the rivers define the old centre. The Trave loops around the historic core, making it almost an island, with streets and a church gathered on the higher ground inside the curve.
Outside that core, the town expands in newer neighbourhoods along the roads and the railway, with parks and green strips following the river valleys. The Trave continues toward Lübeck and the Baltic, and its meadows and trees form soft green corridors across the map.
