Runway through town
The airstrip runs straight through the middle of Goroka, splitting the street plan in two. In black and white it becomes the strongest single shape on the sheet, a clean bar among softer lines.

Goroka Map Poster & Print
Goroka sits at about 1,600 metres in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, the provincial capital of a region better known for its mountains than its roads. From above, the most distinctive line in town is not a street at all but the long, straight runway that cuts through the centre, with the grid of commercial blocks and residential lanes arranged on either side of it.
Beyond the compact centre, the street pattern loosens quickly. Roads follow the natural shape of the valley, bending around slopes and creek lines before giving way to scattered settlements and garden plots. The Highlands Highway links Goroka to the wider region, and on a map it reads as a single confident thread running through otherwise folded, irregular terrain. A Goroka map poster captures that contrast between the flat core and the hills pressing in.
Goroka is widely known for the Goroka Show, an annual gathering of cultural groups from across the highlands that has drawn visitors for decades. The surrounding province is also one of the country's main coffee-growing areas. Neither shows up as a line on the map, but both explain why the town, small as it is, holds such a clear place in the life of the highlands.

Valley setting
The town fills a highland valley floor, and the roads loosen and curve as they climb toward the surrounding ridges. The edges of the map show that shift from grid to terrain-following lanes.
Highlands Highway
The main road linking Goroka to the rest of the highlands passes through town, giving the composition a long connecting line that anchors the smaller local streets around it.
