Kibuye Map Poster & Print
Kibuye, the main town of Karongi District, lies on the eastern shore of Lake Kivu in Rwanda's Western Province. The lake gives the town an extraordinary outline: the shore here breaks into narrow peninsulas and sheltered bays, with small islands scattered offshore. Behind the water, steep hills rise quickly, and the town's roads wind between the lake and the slopes.
Rwanda is often called the land of a thousand hills, and around Kibuye the description feels literal. Slopes are cultivated high up their sides, and roads follow ridges before curving down to the shore. Lake Kivu, one of the African Great Lakes, stretches along the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and boats link Kibuye with other towns along its shores.
A Kibuye map poster is dominated by the interplay of land and water: the irregular shoreline, the fingers of land reaching into the lake and the roads climbing inland. In pure line work, the intricate edge of Lake Kivu becomes the main subject, making this one of the most graphically striking small-town maps imaginable.

Islands offshore
Small islands dot the lake near the town, scattered shapes in the open water that add detail and depth to the lower part of the composition.
Hill roads
Roads climb from the lakeside along ridges and valleys, their winding lines revealing the steep terrain that rises immediately behind the shore.
