Mount Hagen Map Poster & Print
Mount Hagen is the capital of Papua New Guinea's Western Highlands Province and one of the main towns of the central highlands. It sits in a wide valley well over a thousand metres above sea level, with the town centre gathered around markets and main roads, and settlements spreading into garden land on the surrounding slopes.
The town takes its name from the nearby mountain, itself named after the German colonial official Bernhard Hagen. The Highlands Highway links Mount Hagen with Lae on the coast and with other highland centres, and Kagamuga Airport lies a short distance from town. The annual Mount Hagen Cultural Show brings together groups from across the highlands and has made the town known far beyond the country.
A Mount Hagen map poster speaks to people who grew up in the highlands, and to those who worked or travelled here. On paper, the drawing mixes a compact town grid with looser rural patterns, roads following valleys and ridges, a portrait of a town closely tied to the green landscape around it.

Town centre
Markets, shops and offices cluster in a small central grid, the densest part of the map and the meeting point of roads from the surrounding valleys.
Valley and slopes
Beyond the centre, winding roads and scattered settlements climb into hills and garden land, giving the edges of the poster an irregular, organic texture.
