Naksalbāri Map Poster & Print
Naksalbāri lies in the Siliguri subdivision of Darjeeling district, on the flat terai plain where the Himalayan foothills give way to lowland. From above, the town is a modest cluster of streets along the main road, with the railway passing nearby. Around it the map opens into the regular parcels of tea estates, small streams and patches of woodland running west toward the Nepal border.
The name carries weight far beyond the town's size. In 1967 a peasant uprising in the villages here gave rise to the Naxalite movement, and the word Naxal, now used across India, comes directly from Naksalbāri. The town itself remains a working market centre for the surrounding gardens and farms, a short journey from the regional hub of Siliguri.
A Naksalbāri map poster records the plain geometry of the terai: straight roads, the thin line of the railway, the angular blocks of plantation land. In black and white the tea estates read almost like texture, a pattern of parcels spreading out from a compact centre, framed by rivers that come down from the hills to the north.

Railway across the terai
A rail line crosses the area on its way over the plains of north Bengal, drawing a long, steady stroke through town and countryside alike.
Toward the border
West of the town the map runs toward the Mechi river and the Nepal border, with streams cutting shallow lines across the flat ground.
