A loop of road encloses the historic town centre. It is clearly visible from above and gives the middle of the poster a strong, almost circular shape.

Newcastle under Lyme Map Poster & Print
Newcastle under Lyme lies in Staffordshire, immediately west of Stoke-on-Trent, and on a map the two merge into a single urban area. The town still has its own distinct centre: a compact cluster of old streets enclosed by a ring road. From there, main roads lead out toward the Potteries towns, the M6 motorway and the Staffordshire countryside.
The town takes its name from a new castle built in the twelfth century near the ancient forest of Lyme. It received a royal charter in 1173, which makes it one of the older boroughs in the region. Just to the west, Keele University occupies a large landscaped estate that includes the historic Keele Hall.
A Newcastle under Lyme map poster shows the ring road around the old centre, the terraced streets and later estates that surround it, and the parkland and paths of the Keele campus at the western edge. Although it sits beside a larger city, the town has kept its own shape.

Keele University
West of the town, the campus spreads across a wooded estate with lakes, winding drives and scattered buildings. Its texture is very different from the streets nearby.
Edge of the Potteries
To the east, the streets merge with those of Stoke-on-Trent. The map shows how closely the town is connected to the neighbouring pottery towns.
