Harringay is best known on the map for one striking pattern. Between Green Lanes and the railway to the west, a series of long, parallel residential streets run side by side. Roads at each end join them, so the whole area looks like a ladder. Locals simply call it the Ladder, and it is one of the most recognisable street layouts in London.
Most of the terraces were built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as the area was developed for London's growing population. Green Lanes is the commercial spine, known for its Turkish and Kurdish restaurants, bakeries and grocers. Finsbury Park lies just to the south, a large green space at the foot of the neighbourhood.
A Harringay map poster puts the Ladder at the centre. Its repeating lines create a graphic rhythm that looks almost abstract in black and white. It suits people who have lived in one of these terraces or walked Green Lanes on a Friday night. It also suits anyone who likes London's unusual street patterns and wants something more personal than a tourist view of the capital.
Long, parallel terraced streets run between Green Lanes and Wightman Road. Together they form one of London's most distinctive and instantly recognisable street patterns.
The main road forms the eastern rail of the Ladder. It is a busy commercial street lined with shops, bakeries and restaurants.
The large park to the south appears as a broad open space. It balances the tight rhythm of the terraces above it.

Kaia a Harringay
Few neighbourhoods offer such a clean graphic pattern. A Harringay poster works both as a personal map of home and as a piece of design. People often find their own rung of the Ladder within seconds.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with your street and the year you moved in, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 download includes 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files.
