Le Cannet lies directly north of Cannes on the Côte d'Azur, rising from the coastal plain onto the hills behind it. On the map, the lower streets merge with those of Cannes, while higher up the roads twist in tight curves between gardens and villas. The old village centre sits on the slope, with narrow lanes that date back well before the modern town.
The painter Pierre Bonnard lived in Le Cannet from the 1920s until his death in 1947, working in his villa Le Bosquet and painting the views over the rooftops and the bay. The Musée Bonnard in the town is dedicated to his work. The light and hillside setting that drew him are still easy to see.
