Poyang lies in northeastern Jiangxi, on the eastern side of the lake that shares its name. Poyang Lake is the largest freshwater lake in China, and its size changes dramatically between wet and dry seasons. The land around the town is low and flat, crossed by rivers, channels and ponds.
