Salima is the headquarters of Salima District in Malawi's Central Region, set on the lowland plain near the western shore of Lake Malawi. The town itself sits a little inland from the water, with roads leading down to the lakeshore beaches and to Senga Bay. From above, the settlement is modest and spread out, surrounded by farmland and villages.
A Salima map poster shows the town centre around its main roads, with residential areas fanning out on the flat ground.
