Tecamachalco lies in the valley of the same name in central Puebla, southeast of the state capital. On a map the center follows the regular colonial pattern common in Mexico. The town's best-known monument is the sixteenth-century Franciscan convent. Beneath its choir are painted panels attributed to Juan Gerson, an indigenous artist, and they are among the notable examples of early colonial painting in Mexico.
