Wenfeng lies in the northeastern part of Chongqing municipality, a region of steep ridges, deep valleys and rivers that eventually drain toward the Yangtze and the Three Gorges. The land is rugged and there is little flat ground, so the town has grown wherever the valley allows, and its outline follows the shape of the terrain.
