Āt’aye Map Poster & Print
Āt’aye is a town in Ethiopia's Amhara region, in the North Shewa area on the eastern side of the highlands. To the east the land descends toward the Afar lowlands, so the town sits in a transitional landscape between high plateau and lower country, and that change in terrain is part of what gives the surrounding map its character.
In the town itself, streets gather around a central core and spread outward with less regularity toward the edges, where homesteads and fields take over. Watercourses and gullies cut through the surrounding land, and roads bend around them, giving the map a pattern of lines that respond closely to the ground beneath.
An Āt’aye map poster reduces this setting to its essential structure: the concentrated streets of the town and the looser network of paths and roads that tie it to the countryside. Printed in black and white, it becomes a calm, precise record of a place that many of its people carry with them wherever they live.

Central street cluster
The densest lines on the poster mark the town centre, where streets meet closely before spreading out into a more scattered pattern.
Gullies and streams
Seasonal watercourses cross the land around Āt’aye, and the roads and paths that avoid or bridge them add irregular breaks to the map.

Maʼnoga ega xarita
Āt’aye is home, or the family hometown, for many people now living in Addis Ababa, other Ethiopian cities or abroad. A map is a restrained, personal way to mark that connection, showing the streets as they are rather than as a postcard.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a family name or an important year. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download six print sizes for $9, or order a printed matte poster.
