Seto Map Poster & Print
Seto lies in the hills north-east of Nagoya, in Aichi Prefecture. The Seto River runs through the centre, and the older streets follow it along a narrow valley. Around this core, the land rises in wooded hills. Roads climb and wind up to residential areas and to the quarries that have supplied the town's clay for centuries.
Seto is one of the oldest and best-known pottery towns in Japan, and its kilns have operated for many centuries. The town's name gave Japanese the word setomono, now used for ceramics in general. Part of the 2005 World Expo was also held in the Seto area, and pottery remains central to local life today.
A Seto map poster traces the valley town and its river, the dense small blocks of the old centre, and the looser roads that curve over the surrounding hills. The drawing has the fine, careful quality of a crafted object, which suits a town known for its craft.

Old pottery streets
The older streets near the river, where the pottery trade has long been concentrated, form an area of small, tightly packed blocks with a fine texture on the poster.
Surrounding hills
Wooded hills rise around the town, and the roads across them curve and branch freely. This gives the edges of the map an irregular look, almost like contour lines.
