Wipperfürth Map Poster & Print
Wipperfürth lies in the Oberbergischer Kreis, east of Cologne, in the hilly Bergisches Land of North Rhine-Westphalia. It received town rights in the early thirteenth century and is generally regarded as the oldest town in the region. The river that flows through it is called the Wipper here and becomes the Wupper further downstream. The town's name recalls an old ford across it.
The historic core is small and compact. A market square and the Romanesque church of St. Nicholas sit at its heart, and streets fan out from there along the valley and up the slopes. Reservoirs built to supply water and regulate the Wupper are scattered through the surrounding hills. They include the Neye and Bever dams, which appear on the map as long, branching lakes.
A Wipperfürth map poster captures a town that fits neatly into its valley. The river curves through the centre, the old streets cluster tightly around the square, and newer neighbourhoods follow the contours outward. Zoom out a little and the reservoirs join the picture, their irregular outlines giving the print a distinctive, almost hand-drawn quality.

River Wipper
The river that becomes the Wupper downstream flows through the town. It draws a gentle curve across the map and sets the direction of the main streets.
Reservoir lakes
The Neye and Bever reservoirs lie in the surrounding hills. Their branching, finger-like outlines add striking shapes to a wider view of the area.
