Valley floor town
The town is built on one of the few level stretches in the county and extends along its valley, giving the map a long, linear shape instead of a central core.

Yŏnsa-ŭp Map Poster & Print
Yŏnsa-ŭp is the administrative town of Yŏnsa County in North Hamgyong, deep in the mountainous interior of North Korea's far northeast. From above, the settlement is a compact cluster pressed into a valley floor. Roads and buildings follow the lie of the land rather than any planned grid, and almost everything around the town is contour and slope.
Steep, heavily wooded terrain covers most of the county, and forestry has long been part of the local economy. On a map this appears as wide empty space, broken only by thin roads that climb along stream beds. The town sits on one of the rare stretches of flatter ground, so its outline is long and narrow rather than round.
A Yŏnsa-ŭp map poster works through restraint. It has few mapped streets and little density, so the geometry of the valley shapes the composition: a winding road, the slopes that press in on it and a small knot of blocks where the ground opens out. In black and white it becomes a quiet study of how a settlement adapts to mountain country.

Valley roads
The main roads trace valleys and stream beds through the hills, so the street pattern follows the drainage lines of the landscape rather than a surveyed grid.
Forested highlands
The mountains around the town fill most of the frame as open space, in strong contrast to the small, dense cluster of blocks at its centre.
