Te mapa
Acatlán de Osorio is in the Mixteca region of southern Puebla, a landscape of dry hills, scrub and seasonal streams. The town grew around a traditional Mexican centre. A main square and its church anchor a grid of blocks, and the grid loosens as it reaches the slopes around town. On a map, the central plan is tidy and near-orthogonal, while the edges spread out along the roads leading away.
The town is best known for its pottery. Acatlán's ceramic workshops, especially their black and red clay pieces and elaborate trees of life, are recognised across Mexico. That tradition doesn't show up directly on a street plan, but it helps explain the town's identity. Many of the blocks on the map hold family workshops as well as homes.
An Acatlán de Osorio map poster shows the square and its surrounding blocks in fine black lines, with the main roads running out toward the Mixteca countryside. The drawing is restrained, which suits a place whose best-known work comes from clay, hands and patience. It fits well in a room that already holds a piece of Mexican ceramics.
The main plaza and its church sit at the heart of the grid. On paper they show up as a clear open block that the surrounding streets are organised around.
Near-regular blocks spread out from the centre in the traditional Mexican way, then give way to looser streets as the ground starts to rise.
Several roads leave town toward the surrounding hills. Each is a single strong line crossing open, sparsely built land at the edge of the frame.
