Adelfia Map Poster & Print
Adelfia is in the countryside south of Bari in Apulia. It was formed in 1927 when two neighbouring villages, Canneto and Montrone, were merged. The name comes from the Greek word for brotherhood, a reference to that union. On the map, the history is still visible. There are two older cores, each with its own tangle of narrow streets, joined by later, more regular blocks.
Around the town, the Apulian landscape takes over. Olive groves and vineyards divide the land into small, rectangular parcels bounded by roads and dry-stone walls. From above, they produce a fine, even texture that surrounds the town on every side. Country roads run straight between the plots toward neighbouring towns.
