Te mapa
’Aïn Abid lies on the high plains southeast of Constantine, in rolling farmland that stretches for kilometres in every direction. The town is compact, and from above it looks like a tight cluster of blocks set down in a wide landscape of fields, with a handful of roads leaving it towards neighbouring communes. The first word of its name, Aïn, means spring in Arabic, a reminder of how settlements here grew around water.
The surrounding plateau is cereal country, and seasonal watercourses cut shallow lines through the fields around the town. On a map these wadis and field tracks form a loose web that contrasts with the more regular streets at the centre. The terrain is open rather than dramatic, so the outline of the town and its road connections carry the whole composition.
An ’Aïn Abid map poster is a quiet piece: a small urban core, a clear network of routes and plenty of open space around it. For anyone with family roots in the Constantine region, it records a specific place that rarely appears on printed maps at all, drawn with the same care usually given to a capital city.
The centre is a dense block of streets and low buildings, sharply defined against the fields. At poster scale it reads as a single solid shape with a clear edge.
Several roads leave the town towards Constantine and the surrounding communes, drawing long straight lines across the plateau that give the map its underlying structure.
Beyond the built-up area, the high plains of eastern Algeria open into wide cereal fields, crossed by tracks and seasonal streams that appear as faint, wandering lines.

Koteā ko ’Aïn Abid
A map of ’Aïn Abid is often a family object, a way to keep a hometown close from Algiers or from abroad. The streets are few enough that people can point to the house, the school and the road out of town.
Personalise the title with your own spelling of the name, add a subtitle and the coordinates, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand fits the plateau particularly well. Digital files cost $9 and come in six print sizes.
