Te mapa
Ait Ourir lies east of Marrakesh, where the Haouz plain meets the foothills of the High Atlas. The main road toward the Tizi n'Tichka pass and Ouarzazate runs through the town, and much of the settlement lines that route. On a map, a long central axis is flanked by a denser web of lanes and plots, with farmland and scattered villages beyond.
The town serves as a local market centre for the surrounding countryside and as a stopping point for travellers heading into the mountains. The high ground rises to the south and east. Valleys run down from the Atlas nearby, and water from them supports the orchards and fields around the town.
An Ait Ourir map poster shows a place defined by its position on the road between plain and mountain. The street pattern thickens along the main route and loosens at the edges into open land. It is a modest and accurate drawing of a town that many people pass through and some call home.
The main route toward the Tichka pass runs straight through town. It forms the strongest line on the poster and the axis the town grew along.
Around the road, lanes and plots are packed closely together. Here the drawing takes on a finer texture before opening out toward farmland.
Toward the edges, the map thins out as the ground rises. This is a reminder that the High Atlas begins just beyond the town.
