Apóstoles Map Poster & Print
Apóstoles traces its origins to a Jesuit mission founded in the seventeenth century. The modern town grew after a wave of Ukrainian and Polish settlers arrived in the late nineteenth century. From above it has the orderly shape common to planned Argentine towns: a grid of square blocks around a central plaza, with avenues extending outward into gently rolling countryside.
The land around the town is what makes the area known across Argentina. Apóstoles calls itself the national capital of yerba mate, and the surrounding estates cover the hills with plantation rows, shelterbelts and farm tracks. Streams run through wooded hollows between the fields, adding irregular lines to an otherwise measured landscape.
